Human resources director hired

YOUNGSTOWN -- David Macek of Boardman has been hired for the new position of human resources director for the Mahoning County Children Services Board.
The board hired the 38-year-old Struthers native for the $50,000-a-year position Tuesday from among 26 applicants, five of whom were interviewed for the job.
Macek holds a bachelor's degree in food and nutrition and a master of business administration degree in management, both from Youngstown State University. He has been a human resources director for 10 years, and was most recently the human resources director at the soon-to-be-closed MCI call center in Niles. Previously, he was a human resources director in the nursing home industry.
Macek was hired as Kathy Bolha, office manager and personnel officer, prepares to retire at the end of this month after 32 years with the agency.
The office manager part of Bolha's job, which involves supervision of 15 clerical workers, is being assumed by Floree Stubbs, who was previously the agency's management information system supervisor.
Denise Stewart, the agency's executive director, said that Bolha's job is being split apart and that Macek was hired because of the demanding and increasingly technical nature of the personnel function.
"We saw a need to have somebody strictly doing our personnel work. We have a staff of 137 people," Stewart explained.
Stubbs will oversee the new downtown offices to which the agency will move next year from its offices in the county's South Side Annex, Stewart said. The agency's new building is under construction.
