PREP SOFTBALL Boardman wins sectional title



Mineral Ridge edged Mooney in eight innings of a regular season game.
BOARDMAN -- Behind a 13-hit attack, Boardman High defeated Ashtabula Lakeside 8-0 in a Division I softball tournament game Monday.
The top-seeded Spartans (19-2) advanced to the district tournament for the eighth consecutive year and will play Garfield Heights at the Fields of Dreams next Monday.
Ashley DiDomenico (16-2) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk for Boardman.
Sarah Albani singled three times with two RBIs, and Jaclyn Corroto added three hits.
Krysta Sylvester had two hits and two runs scored, and Melanie Lodyn doubled and drove in three runs.
Division II
CARROLLTON -- Katie Prysi threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts as New Philadelphia defeated Beaver Local, 11-0.
Monica Marcaletti had three hits with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs for New Philadelphia (14-8).
Tara Hambleton doubled for the Beavers (13-13).
Regular season
HUBBARD -- Amanda Taylor pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts as Hubbard defeated Girard, 14-1, in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Hubbard (14-4, 11-2) and Champion are tied for first place in the TAC standings.
Brittany McKee, Callie Oyler and Kelly Hudy each had three hits for the Eagles.
Girard is 8-15, 2-10.
Poland 7, Alliance 0
ALLIANCE -- Mallory Conger (13-3) pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts and received last-inning relief help from Jenna Susany as Poland blanked Alliance in the Metro Athletic Conference.
Kari Thompson had a double, single and two RBIs; Jessie Modic a double, single and two RBIs; and Amy Nelson two singles and two RBIs to lead Poland (17-4, 9-1).
Amber Saunders had a double and single for Alliance (8-13, 3-8).
Mineral Ridge 3, Mooney 2
MINERAL RIDGE -- Katie Olive hit a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning for Mineral Ridge.
Olive also had a triple, while Sarah Stark had an RBI single. Chelsea Fridley hit two singles for the Rams (16-5).
Mimi Vitello had two singles for Mooney (16-8).
Kaili Gehring (14-3) was the winning pitcher.
Lowellville 4, Jackson-Milton 2
NORTH JACKSON -- Freshman Carla Blinsky (3-11) threw a five-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Rockets (5-11, 2-7 Inter-County League).
Junior Juli Peterson had three hits, including a double, to lead Lowellville.
