YOUNGSTOWN -- Struthers Patrolman Thomas V. Granchie reported to city police that a wide variety of his police equipment was stolen from his unlocked car in a parking lot on Salt Springs Road.
Among the items taken were a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol, 10 clips, .40-caliber ammunition, uniform shirt and pants, work boots, bulletproof vest, badge, duty belt with holster and handcuff case, Motorola 16-channel radio with lapel microphone, night stick, and a buck knife and case.
Granchie told police that he worked night security at a business in the 2700 block of Salt Springs and discovered the theft early Monday morning.
Also taken were personal items such as his home garage door opener and cigarettes.
Value of the stolen items was estimated at $2,500.
Girl charged afterdousing couple
STRUTHERS -- Police charged a 13-year-old Fifth Street girl with disorderly conduct after she threw a bucket of water on a couple on a motorcycle.
According to a police report, the driver of the bike, a 43-year-old Struthers man, nearly crashed after being hit with the water. The report states both he and his passenger, a 30-year-old Struthers woman, were wet.
The event occurred in the 400 block of Fifth Street just after 7 p.m. Sunday.
Restaurant damagedduring burglary
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Colonial House Restaurant, 2619 Market St., was burglarized, and around $130 was taken from the cash register, reports show.
Two doors that were damaged had to be boarded up.
Two electric meters were knocked off the building, leaving the business without electricity.
The break-in was reported just before midnight Monday.
Sexual harassment alleged
YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman is seeking in excess of $25,000 for alleged sexual harassment and wrongful discharge.
April L. Kirkwood of Millicent Avenue, Liberty, filed the lawsuit Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court against Cumulus Broadcasting Inc. of Youngstown and John Trout, the program director at radio station WHOT FM 101, which Cumulus owns.
The lawsuit gives no specifics of the alleged harassment.
Kirkwood left the job as a WHOT radio personality March 15, 2004.
She started in March 2003, according to the suit.
Kirkwood also contends she was hired under false pretenses that she would be syndicated and receive additional income.
Trout could not be reached to comment.
Hubbard Expressway
YOUNGSTOWN -- The state's Transportation Review Advisory Council has voted to retain $2.7 million to pay for part of the design work on the proposed Hubbard Expressway.
The long-discussed $74 million project would connect Albert Street on Youngstown's East Side with Interstate 80 in Hubbard Township.
Neighborhood cleanup
YOUNGSTOWN -- The CPR Block Watch will be sponsoring a neighborhood cleanup from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Volunteers should meet at 8:30 a.m. at Palmer Avenue and Beechwood Place, where the city will provide trash bags and gloves.
Volunteers will collect and bag litter, tree branches and other debris on Cambridge, Palmer, Roxbury and East Judson avenues and Beechwood Place, and city street department trucks will collect the bags from the curbs.
Memorial Day parade
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The village Memorial Day parade is to begin at 9:30 a.m. May 31.
It will be followed by a service at St. Paul the Apostle Church.
Refreshments will be served afterward. Anyone wishing to take part should call the municipal building.
Fireman's Festival set
LEETONIA -- The ninth annual Fireman's Festival will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday downtown.
The event includes food and beverages, games and amusement rides and entertainment.
