BOXING Fagan earns decision; Salinas loses to Barnett

Nine amateur bouts were contested at West Branch High.
BELOIT -- A nine-bout amateur card at West Branch High Saturday night included three area fighters who won.
Boxers from the Southside Boxing Club split a pair of bouts.
Charlie Fagan had a sensational rally to turn around his 119-pound four-rounder with James Radman from the Salem Boxing Club.
Fagan was tagged by a solid right early in round one and was dropped to one knee, but using a good left jab and a series of quick combinations he rallied.
In round two Fagan used a 10-punch series that had the referee give Radman a pair of standing eight counts and finally stop the contest as the bell ended.
"Maybe that shot early in the first round was a wakeup call because it really turned Charlie on to his real ring potential," trainer Jack Loew said.
"I just knew that when [Radman] tagged me I was better than that and I had to do something about it," Fagan said.
Salinas defeated
In a 90-pound Junior Olympic bout, Juan Salinas, the standout from the Southside Boxing Club, ran into a very experienced John Barnett from Cleveland's Old School Boxing, who had 40 fights and a 30-10 record.
Barnett worked good combinations to the head and body in the first round and though Salinas came back in round two, putting on a boxing clinic with his left jab, Barnett went back to work in the third and final round to win the decision.
"Barnett just had too much experience for Juan, but Salinas will profit from this loss," Loew said.
Former Youngstown boxing standout Reggie Revere had a pair of winners from his club.
Derrick Eggleston, in a 178-pound fight with Doug Bowling from Wooster, won when the referee stopped the contest at the 12-second mark of the first round. Bowling was finished after one punch, a stiff left jab, in the shortest bout of the night.
In one of the better fights of the night, a 158-pound slugfest, Revere's other boxer, Nate Adams, stopped Zade Malick from Old School Boxing in Cleveland in round four.
The best exchanges of the night were in this bout with both fighters using very quick combinations. Malick, who took a standing eight count in round two, was sent down by an Adams' left hook that had the referee stop the contest.
Salem boxers
The Salem Boxing Club had fighters in four bouts, with only Michael Orosz, in a super heavyweight match, coming out a winner. Orosz, weighing 206 pounds outpunched 264-pound Ryan Parks from The Final Round Boxing Club in Wooster. These two big men really went at it, but Orosz, with a non-stop volley in the third round, had the referee stop the contest at the 25-second mark.
Another super heavyweight bout between Cleveland boxers had 201-pound Norman Mills, from the Cleveland Glenville Recreation Center, completely dominate Jason Massie to win a four-round decision.
Mills, a winner of the recent Cleveland Golden Gloves, lost a close decision in the Nationals, but could be turning pro in the near future.
Boxers from the Glenville Recreation Center won three bouts, with Terrell Gausha winning a decision and Michael Caldwell and Brandon Williams stopping opponents in rounds one and two.
