BASEBALL ROUNDUP Wood's double gives Tigers tourney win



Niles used a 14-hit attack to beat Canfield, 16-9, in a regular season game.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- In the bottom of the sixth inning, Aaron Wood hit a two-out, two-run double to help Springfield High defeat Lisbon 7-6 in a Division III sectional baseball game on Monday.
Adam Cosma and Jay Yorty each hit two-run singles in a five-run fifth inning as Lisbon (16-4) took a 6-0 lead.
The game had been scheduled at Lisbon, the second seed, but was moved to Springfield due to wet grounds.
The Tigers (12-9) scored twice in the bottom of the fifth but still trailed 6-5 with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth.
Wood hit an 0-1 pitch off the left field wall.
Melio Rios also doubled for Springfield, which will play Brookfield next Monday at Cene Park.
Niles 16, Canfield 9
NILES -- Mike Ruscitti went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Niles in a regular-season Metro Athletic Conference game.
After Canfield (21-4, 7-2) scored five times in the top of the sixth to close the deficit to 10-9, Niles (11-4, 6-4) put the game away with a six-run sixth.
Jeff Claar doubled in a 14-hit attack for Niles.
Frank Turocy and Chad Baker had doubles for Canfield.
Poland 7, Alliance 1
POLAND -- Bill Christian went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (12-5, 6-2 MAC).
Tom Clayton added two hits, including a homer, and three RBIs, and Brett Pitzulo doubled.
David Yost and Reid Lamport combined to hold the Aviators (10-14, 6-5) to three hits with 12 strikeouts.
Salem 14, Howland 8
HOWLAND -- The Quakers (14-7, 4-6 MAC) collected 13 hits, including seven for extra bases.
Craig Hritz homered and doubled, while Jarin Heath, Mark Kolich, Grant Sevek, Landon Heath and Lance Buckley doubled for Salem.
For the Tigers (7-13, 3-8), Manoli Pahoulis had a triple.
Mineral Ridge 14, Lowellville 4
MINERAL RIDGE -- John Dubic singled twice and Brandon Linert doubled for the Rams (7-10, 5-4 Inter-County League).
The Rockets are 2-9, 0-9.
