E. Palestine memorial service to remember fallen firefighters

EAST PALESTINE -- Mahoning Valley firefighters will remember their fallen comrades at a memorial service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at East Palestine Fire Department's Clark Street station.
Brett Todd, East Palestine fire chief, said firefighters will wear dress uniforms for the service, which is open to all firefighters and anyone else who would like to attend, Todd said.
He said the Mahoning Valley Firefighters Association plans the memorial service each May at a different station to honor Valley firefighters who have died since the previous year's service.
Eleven firefighters will be honored at Tuesday's remembrance, which will include a reading of the names of firefighters who have died in the past year, and also a brief biography of their lives and their service as firefighters. There will also be time during the memorial service dedicated to remember all fallen firefighters, Todd said.
A eulogy will be given by a local minister, there will be bagpipe music and taps will be played, he said.
Todd said any full-time or volunteer firefighter who is a member of a fire department in Trumbull, Mahoning or Columbiana counties is eligible for membership in the association.
