Yankees 7, Mariners 6
SEATTLE -- Hideki Matsui's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning gave New York its second comeback win from a six-run deficit this week. Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi and Alex Rodriguez homered for the Yankees, who trailed 6-0 in the second. Rafael Soriano (0-3) walked Rodriguez on a 3-2 count and gave up a single to Giambi to put runners on first and second. Rodriguez later scored on Matsui's sacrifice fly off Shigetoshi Hasegawa. Paul Quantrill (4-1) got the win and Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth for his 28th consecutive save and 12th this season.
Angels 8, Devil Rays 4
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jeff DaVanon homered and drove in four runs, Jarrod Washburn won his fifth straight start, and Anaheim won its ninth straight. Angels outfielder Jose Guillen homered in the fifth but sprained his right knee and ankle in the seventh. He is the fourth Anaheim starting player to get injured. Washburn (6-1) allowed four runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings, walked none and struck out five. Francisco Rodriguez got seven outs for his first save.
Athletics 8, Twins 4
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Mulder pitched a season-high nine innings and Bobby Kielty hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs for Oakland. Billy McMillon had two hits with an RBI double and Erubiel Durazo drove in two runs for the A's. Mulder (3-2) tossed a six-hitter for his 18th career complete game and first since Aug. 8 at Chicago. Minnesota's Michael Cuddyer hit a solo home run in the second.
Royals 8, Red Sox 4
BOSTON -- Darrell May earned his first victory since Sept. 21 and Carlos Beltran had three hits with four RBIs as Kansas City snapped Boston's five-game win streak. May (1-3) allowed two runs and seven hits and a walk, striking out five before leaving with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth. Mike Sweeney was 2-for-2 with three intentional walks and Kelly Stinnett homered for the Royals, who snapped four-game losing streak. Derek Lowe (3-3) gave up six runs and five hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings. Manny Ramirez and Bill Mueller both homered for Boston.
Tigers 5, Rangers 3
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Alex Sanchez hit a tie-breaking homer in the eighth inning and Nate Robertson allowed three hits in seven-plus innings for Detroit. Rondell White had two RBIs. Robertson (2-2) gave up three runs, struck out seven and walked two in 7 2/3 innings. Ugueth Urbina got three outs for his fourth save.
Blue Jays 5, White Sox 2
TORONTO -- Justin Miller tied a career high by pitching seven innings, Frank Catalanotto hit a two-run homer and Toronto won its season-high fifth straight. Miller (1-0) also tied a career high with seven strikeouts, allowing two runs and seven hits. Kerry Ligtenberg pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first save. Frank Thomas hit a two-run single for the White Sox, whose three-game losing streak is a season high.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Astros 2, Braves 1
ATLANTA -- Andy Pettitte won a pitching duel with Russ Ortiz and Houston scored the tie-breaking run when Orlando Palmeiro walked with the bases loaded. Pettitte (3-1) allowed just two hits and a run in six innings. He improved to 4-0 in his career against the Braves, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Each team had only three hits.
Giants 7, Reds 6, 10 innings
CINCINNATI -- Barry Bonds led off the 10th inning with an intentional walk, advanced on Edgardo Alfonzo's double and came home on Deivi Cruz's sacrifice fly. Bonds was 0-for-4, extending his slump to 0-for-15, when he led off the 10th against Danny Graves (1-3). Bonds doesn't have a hit in his last six games but has walked 15 times, nine of them intentional. Jim Brower (1-2) got Ryan Freel to ground out with the bases loaded in the ninth, keeping it tied.
Mets 6, Brewers 5, 11 innings
NEW YORK -- Kaz Matsui hit a game-winning double in the 11th inning after not starting for the first time this season. Matsui entered as a pinch runner in the eighth inning. He scored on Ty Wigginton's pinch-hit two-run single, as New York rallied from a 5-3 deficit. In the 11th, Matsui drove a ball over the head of center fielder Scott Podsednik to score Todd Zeile with the winning run.
Cardinals 5, Expos 2
MONTREAL -- Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds homered, and Chris Carpenter pitched eight innings for St. Louis. Carpenter (3-1) scattered four hits and struck out four. Jason Isringhausen pitched the ninth for his fifth save. Brad Wilkerson homered for Montreal.
Marlins 7, Padres 4
MIAMI -- Miguel Cabrera hit his league-leading 11th home run, and Josh Beckett pitched six innings for Florida. Beckett (3-2) allowed one run and five hits in his second win in three starts. Armando Benitez got one out for his 13th save. Alex Gonzalez also homered for Florida, and leadoff man Juan Pierre went 3-for-4. Padres starter Adam Eaton (1-3) lasted just 1 2/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. Winless in his last five starts, he allowed six runs.
Cubs 5, Rockies 4, 13 innings
CHICAGO -- Corey Patterson hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the 13th inning off Jeff Fassero (0-2). Aramis Ramirez hit a two-out homer in the bottom of the 10th off Rockies closer Shawn Chacon to tie it. The Rockies had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the 10th when Todd Helton homered on Joe Borowski's first pitch.
Phillies 7, Diamondbacks 1
PHOENIX -- Brett Myers earned his first win of the season by pitching seven innings as Philadelphia completed a three-game sweep. Marlon Byrd hit a leadoff homer and scored three times, and Jimmy Rollins was 4-for-5 with an RBI.
