Armed Forces Week
YOUNGSTOWN -- Opening ceremonies for Armed Forces Week are at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Mahoning County Courthouse, 120 Market St. Guest speaker is state Rep. John Boccieri of New Middletown, D-61st, who recently returned home from serving overseas with the Air Force Reserve's 910th Airlift Wing stationed at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna.
Special luncheon
The Armed Forces Week luncheon is at 11 a.m. Thursdayat Italian American Post 3 on Meridian Road, Youngstown. For tickets, contact Fred Kubli at (330) 652-4440. Local military members and their families will be recognized at the luncheon.
Vietnam War honors
Patrick M. McLaughlin, president of the Greater Cleveland Veterans Memorial, was inducted May 7 into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor, at Veterans Plaza, Columbus.
McLaughlin, a former U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action Oct. 29, 1967, while serving as an infantry squad leader with Charlie Co., 1st. Battalion, 18th Infantry, in Vietnam.
He also was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver and Bronze Stars. McLaughlin was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2003.

Air Force staff sergeant
Air Force Staff Sgt. Robin E. Vaden was promoted to her current rank while serving as an aviation resource manger with the 16th Operations Support Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Vaden, a 1999 graduate of Jamestown, Pa., High School, is the granddaughter of Joan McClearn and daughter of Edmund Hunter, both of Jamestown.
910TH AIRLIFT WING
Medical technician
Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt. Timothy R. Gollner has arrived for duty at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. Gollner is a medical technician assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing's Medical Support Squadron.
He is a son of Rita M. Bowman of Youngstown, and his wife, Diane, is a daughter of Gayle and Agnus Houser of Youngstown. Gollner is a 1979 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.

Aboard aircraft carrier
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew R. Mull, Navy Airman Allicia Price, Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class William C. Sennett, and Navy Airman David B. Norris Jr. are assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, based in Norfolk, Va.
Sennett, a son of Teresa L. and Robert S. Sennett of Greenville, Pa., is a 2001 graduate of Reynolds High School, Greenville.
Price, stepdaughter of Jessica L. and William E. Price Jr. of New Castle, Pa., is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School, New Castle.
Norris is a son of Valerie Sue Wright of New Brighton, Pa., and David B. Norris Sr. of Ellwood City, Pa.
Mull, son of Lauraetta L. and William M. Mull of Berlin Center, is a 1989 graduate of Western Reserve High School of Berlin Center.
In the Mediterranean
Navy Seaman Justin R. O'Hara, son of Angie M. and Michael D. O'Hara of Youngstown, is deployed to the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Cole, based in Norfolk, Va. O'Hara is a 1998 graduate of Ursuline High School.
Back in Italy
Army Spec. Daniel A. Beckett has returned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy, after completing a deployment to Iraq. Beckett, a cannon crew member, is a son of Anna M. Beckett of Youngstown. He is a 1999 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.

Naval War College
Navy Cmdr. John D. Deehr has graduated from the Naval War College, College of Naval Warfare in Newport, R.I. Many of the graduates will be assigned to high levels in command of ships or squadrons, or as members of strategic planning staffs.
Deehr is a son of Adelbert G. and Helen T. Deehr of Howland. He graduated in 1978 from Howland High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1982 from Kent State University.

Army Reserve Pvt. Douglas F. Klimek has graduated from the metal worker advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md. Klimek, a son of Linda L. and Peter D. Klimek of Sandy Lake, Pa., is a 2003 graduate of Lakeview High School, Sandy Lake.

Marine Corps: Pfc. Benjamin D. Corey (Crestview High School, Columbiana, '03), a son of Thomas and Cynthia Corey of Columbiana and grandson of Stanley and Joann McMurray of Lisbon and Bob and Inez Corey of Columbiana. Cory is a rifleman with the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Division, at Camp LeJeune, N.C.
