Vandals shoot car windows
YOUNGSTOWN -- At least 40 cars -- including a police car parked in an officer's driveway -- had windows shot, most likely with a BB gun, from 11:30 p.m. Friday through around 2 a.m. Saturday on the South and West sides of town. Most of the cars hit were parked on streets.
The area affected ran from West Midlothian Boulevard to Mahoning Avenue and between Meridian Road and downtown. Police took criminal damage reports from car owners on Risher, Bears Den and Rexford roads, Estates Circle, Brunswick, Glacierview, Cascade, Glen Oaks, Coral Sea, Skywae and Hermosa drives.
Library poster contest
EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine Memorial Public Library is conducting a poster contest with the theme "Camp Out With a Good Book." The contest is open to people of all ages. Participants must use poster board provided by the library. The entry deadline is June 7. Winners will be announced June 14, the first day of the library's summer reading program. The library is at 309 N. Market St.
Black Knights to havediversity workshop
YOUNGSTOWN -- A diversity workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 21 at the Black Knights Police Association, 1524 Oakland Ave. The workshop cost is $35, which includes lunch and certificates. Proceeds will be used for a police officer scholarship fund for a black or Latino applicant.
Speakers include Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin Casey, Capt. Jimmy Hughes, and Leonard Williams Sr., past president of the National Black Police Association. For more information, call (330) 743-9100.
Nurse aide training
LORDSTOWN -- The Trumbull Career & amp; Technical Center offers a 78-hour Nurse Aide Training course beginning May 25 at the TCTC adult training center, 1776 Salt Springs Road. The four-week course meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The course prepares students for the state examination for certification as a nursing assistant; the certification allows graduates to work in long-term care facilities and as home health-care aides.
The cost is $385, and some financial aid is available; advanced application is required for such funding. For further course details, call Terry Shifflet at (330) 824-2060.
Senior citizens prom
CORTLAND -- Lakeview High School National Honor Society is sponsoring its annual senior citizens prom from 7 to 10 p.m. May 21. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.
Ebenezer Church event
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- To celebrate the 21st anniversary of its pastor, Elder Eric D. Brooks, Ebenezer Church of God in Christ, 1119 S. Jefferson St., will have a three-day event beginning Friday with guest speaker Superintendent Wilbur G. Hadden of Greater Mount Zion COGIC, Farrell.
Recording artist Minister Malcolm Wilson, Joshua's Generation from Niagra Falls, N.Y., and St. John's Radio Choir from Newport News, Va., will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Guest speakers for May 16 will be Elder Gary Clark from New Jerusalem COGIC, New Castle, for the morning service, and Bishop Samuel L. Green, national COGIC general board member, will speak at the evening service. A dinner will be served after the morning service in the host church's fellowship hall.
