Teen is convicted in stabbing death
MEDINA, Ohio (AP) -- A Medina County jury convicted a teenager of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault Friday in the stabbing death of a 15-year-old.
Jeffrey Rowe, 17, of Wadsworth, killed Matthew Twigg, a freshman at Wadsworth High School in suburban Akron.
Rowe will be sentenced next month. He faces a minimum of one to three years in juvenile detention or a maximum four years in detention followed by six years in prison, said his attorney, Stephen J. Brown.
Rowe sobbed uncontrollably while he testified that he accidentally stabbed Twigg when the two began to tussle after sharing marijuana in Rowe's bedroom on Jan. 31.
Rowe said that out of fear he would get in trouble, he told Twigg to go to a nearby GenFed Credit Union branch to call for help. Twigg was discovered after police received an emergency call about an injured person outside the credit union.
