Taughers to mark 60th anniversary at Mass, reception
XSALEM -- Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Taugher, 1360 Southridge Drive, will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary May 16.
To mark the occasion, an 8 a.m. Mass will be celebrated in their honor at St. Paul Church. The couple will also be feted during an open reception from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. that day at the Italian American Club. The couple request that gifts be omitted.
Hosts for the festivity will be the couple's children, Leo J. Taugher II of Salem and Mrs. William (Susan) Gregg of University Heights. There are two grandchildren in the family.
The former Violet DeRienzo and Mr. Taugher were united in marriage May 15, 1944, in a military wedding at St. Paul Church.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Taugher retired in 1976 after 25 years with the State of Ohio Department of Taxation. He then served as an accountant for DeRienzo's Restaurant until 1987 and for 17 years was a tax adviser for the Insul Co. Inc. of East Palestine. He belongs to many organizations including life membership in Salem Council 1818 Knights of Columbus, for which he has served as district deputy, financial secretary and grand knight; life membership and current counselor at the Italian American Club; and senior member of Salem Golf Club.
Mrs. Taugher was co-owner of DeRienzo's Restaurant. She is a member of Court Salem 1021 Catholic Daughters of America and the church memorial choir, and is also a member and past president of Salem Golf Club Women's League.
Avid golfers, each has recorded a hole-in-one, his in 2000 and hers in 2002. They have been honored as lifetime trustees of Our Lady's Purse at the church.
