Sarah Berry became the sixth recruit for the softball program. A catcher and outfield from Anton, Ontario, Berry was named her team's Most Valuable Player after leading the squad to the Hamberg NSA championship and a No. 5 ranking in Ontario. In 2002, Berry helped guide the Halton Hills Hawks to a top eight finish at the provincial championships. "Sarah is another player that fits the mold of our program," YSU coach Christy Cameron said. "She is a player that runs well and has a good arm. She is going to drive the ball for us offensively because she has a quick bat and is another versatile player that can catch and play the outfield for us."
