JOHN BASSETTI | Bowling Cat Racing team champions again
The Cat Racing team was crowned champion of the Boardman Businessmen League as the 42nd season concluded recently.
It marked the second time in three years that Cat Racing won the Tuesday evening league at Boardman Lanes.
In the title match, Cat Racing beat Prudential Insurance with Bill Stanko's 745 set leading the way. During the second game, the actual scores of both teams combined averaged 230.2.
Other Cat members were Tom Panagopoulos, Tom Seefried, Bob Stanko, Dave Stanko and Boardman co-proprietor Rich Wilson. Prudential comprised Floyd Barron, Joe Cetor, Casey Kuntzman, Mike Lisko Sr. and Jack Ulansky.
Mayberry RFD finished third and Waste-Tech was fourth.
Jim Seabrook edged out Dick Marlowe for high average, 214.6 to 212.6. Bill DeCicco's 207.7 was third.
During the 2003-2004 season, Seabrook rolled the league's highest-ever set of 824 and only the sixth 300 in Businessmen's history. Dave Rudy and Ulansky had 11-in-a-row games with scores of 299 and 290, respectively.
The league's most-improved award went to Steve Ballew Jr., who increased his average by 28 pins.
Other notable season highlights: High game actual, Waste-Tech (1,190); High team game handicap, Prudential Insurance (1,233); High team set actual, Cat Racing (3,282) and High team game handicap, Multi-Dollar (3,400).
The Businessmen's League was established in 1962.

Could Bob Eisenbraun Jr. be Holiday Bowl's Mr. April?
Eisenbraun, Jr., a worker at Holiday, had a Max Belchyk Classic 300 for the third straight week on April 22.
It was Eisenbraun's fifth 300 in the league, his seventh for the season and No. 12 for his career.
Also on the 22nd, Jim Dodge had 300.
Tondo's Power Wash was Max Belchyk's second-half champion with Frank Tondo II, Eric Dunn, Bill Sutak, Pete Patellis and Terry Warren.
Sam Carissimi had 300 during Camelot Outdoorsmen's action on April 21 when Sure Shot won fourth quarter with Hank Gourley, Bob Soles, John Kiefer, Tom Morell, Nick Vecchio and SS sponsor Denny Kunce.
Diane Ornelas won the Lohr Nationwide Insurance Matchplay championship at Bell-Wick for the second year in a row. Carol Kozbial and Terri McCoy tied for second. The high game and set on April 26 was Kozbial's 199-527.
Also at Bell-Wick, the Grannies of Jean Gates, Doris Warino and Helen Carrantz won the Good Times League's championship, while the Grandmas of Mary Waite, Helen Cook and Lana Sheffield was the runner-up team.
Juniors champions at Bell-Wick Bowl were crowned recently; they are: Brandon Moore, Shane Pagnatta, Brandon Valerio and Michael Gianakos for Majors, 13-18; Nick Holmes, Carmen Faustino, David McLaughlin and Anthony DeJacimo for Juniors, 10-12; Alex Zarbaugh, Marissa Simon and Jenna Kleiner for Bantams, 7-9; and Nicholas Ferrara and Kent Kroynovich for Pee Wees.
Frank "Fuzzy" Toman, a Youngstown Bowling Association lifetime member and 17-year secretary, passed away recently. Toman was an avid bowler since 1939. He was also instrumental in development of the local juniors program. Toman was 79.
This concludes the regular bowling season. It's time to don my new T-shirt: "I survived the 2003-2004 bowling season."
