Interfaith student service
BOARDMAN -- Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, will host the 10th annual Boardman Community Student-led Interfaith Baccalaureate service at 7 p.m. May 16.
All graduating seniors and their families and friends are invited. Timon Kaple, president of Boardman High School class of 2004 will welcome guests. Ensembles from Boardman High's school orchestra, band and choral groups will perform. Boardman High School principal Tim Saxton will be the guest speaker.
Students from nine houses of worship in Boardman have planned the service. The service is presented and hosted by Boardman congregations as a service of the Boardman Ministerial Association. The event is coordinated by Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Performance set
GIRARD -- The First Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road will present a play "The Devil and Danielle Webster" at 7 p.m. Friday. The humorous 45-minute performance by the Petersburg Players tells the story of a young man who accidentally makes a deal with the devil and later needs help to escape the consequences of his contract. Gospel music competition
YOUNGSTOWN -- Area gospel choirs can take part in the 1st Annual McDonald's Gospelfest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 17 at McDonald's Restaurant, 2525 Market St. The top choir will receive $500.

Flame Fellowship events
BOARDMAN -- The Rev. Ernest Walker III of Ebenezer Church Of God in Christ will speak at the Youngstown Flame Fellowship meeting at 7 p.m. May 17 at the community center in Boardman Park.
The Ohio State Flame Fellowship Convention will be Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express in Ashland. The speakers will be Dr. Elizabeth Hairston, founder of Women With a Call International, and Dr. Donald Bartow, founder of the Total Living Center in Canton. Call (419) 828-6116.
Mother's Day service
GIRARD -- Girard First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., will have a Mother's Day Celebration at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The special service will honor mothers, and will include special music, a Mother's Day message, and a story for children.
Events at Trinity
YOUNGSTOWN -- Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St., is having several events.
Carol Beeghly Traynor, who studies global aging, will speak at 10:45 a.m. Sunday on "The Status and Role of Women in a Global World."
The Great American Cookout & amp; Open House will be held at 6 p.m. Friday in the church courtyard. People should bring a covered dish. Hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages will be provided. A video presentation will begin at 7 p.m. on the life and ministry of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church.
The church is also sponsoring a bus trip to Wooster College to see the performance of "South Pacific" on June 29. The cost is $75 per person, which covers the play, the bus and dinner. Call (330) 744-5032.
40th anniversary
CANFIELD -- Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., will celebrate its 40th anniversary at 10 am. May 16. The Rev. Gerald Swanson, the first pastor of Lord of Life, will deliver the sermon. There will also special music. There were 161 people in attendance when the church was formally organized May 17, 1964.
