Everyday cleaning products enhanced by aromatic scents
KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
How can you make house-cleaning chores pleasant? No one would have bet on that challenge a few years ago.
But that was before cleaning products started to smell like spas.
The latest in detergents, soaps and glass cleaners emanate such scents as lavender, vanilla, beach, grass and geranium. It's aromatherapy for the scrub team, and from all accounts, the products are gaining fans. Companies, mostly created by small entrepreneurs in the last five years, are enjoying success with the sweet smells, Time magazine says.
The products are not cheap. A 34-ounce bottle of GoodHomes laundry fragrance is $18. Some are being sold at upscale retailers, such as Restoration Hardware, Whole Foods and Williams-Sonoma. Some grocery stores have a special shelf set aside. But apparently it takes a sophisticated science to combine the harsh cleaning chemicals with delicate aromatic oils, Time says.
Yet anything is better than ammonia. You've probably noticed even basic everyday cleaners are sporting fragrances such as orange or fresh rain. In any event, the whole family will volunteer to scrub the bathtub.
