Ducks Unlimited banquet
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual banquet May 21 at the Dutch Village Inn.
Cocktails start at 6 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions and a raffle after dinner.
Tickets are $55 for singles, $80 for couples, $35 for Greenwings and $350 for sponsorship packages.

Women's event planned
The Sippo Valley Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host a Women in the Outdoors event June 12 at the North Industry Sportsmans Club on Beth Road in Navarre.

Pot luck dinner, fish fry
A sportsmans pot luck dinner will be held from 7-10 p.m. Thursday at the Lowellville Rod & amp; Gun Club, Quarry Road off U.S. 224 in Lowellville. Call (330) 536-6730 for information.
The club will also offer a fish fry Friday. Carryout dinners will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. and sit-down dinners from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A $10 donation is required.

Angler surveys resume
Angler surveys will once again resume on Ohio's inland lakes this year following a four year hiatus for refinement and improvement. & quot;Creel clerks & quot; will be surveying the fisherman at 11 lakes in northeast Ohio and 33 lakes around Ohio on weekends and holidays through July 25.
Lakes affected include Berlin Lake, Clendening Lake, East Branch Reservoir, Guilford Lake, Mosquito Lake, New Lyme Lake, Pymatuning Lake, Spencer Lake, Tappan Lake, Wellington Reservoir South and Wellington Upground Reservoir

Elk hunt license drawing applications now available
With the recent approval of the 2004 elk hunt, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has started accepting applications from those interested in entering the public drawing for one of 40 elk hunting licenses (12 antlered and 28 antlerless) to be made available for this fall season. The public drawing is scheduled for Sept. 25, and the elk season is set for Nov. 8-13.
The game commission allows hunters to complete and submit applications online through the agency's Web site (www.pgc.state.pa.us). Just click on "Elk License Application" on the home page.
A $10 nonrefundable fee must be submitted with the application. Online applications must be accompanied by a credit card payment (VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express accepted), and must be submitted by Sept. 10.
For those who prefer to complete a mail-in form, the agency also has posted a printable application on its Web site. In addition, applications will be included in the 2004-05 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations, which is provided to each license buyer.
Forms submitted through the mail must be accompanied by a check or money order (do not send cash) for $10 made payable to Pennsylvania Game Commission, and must be received in the game commission's post office box by Aug. 27. Mail-in applications must be mailed to: Pennsylvania Game Commission, Elk License Application, P.O. Box 61890, Harrisburg, PA 17106-1890.

Field experience
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- "The A-B-Cs of Birding: Ecology Begins with Birds" with Dr. Gene Wilhelm will be presented by EverGreen at the Villa Maria Community Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 15.
This field experience is intended strictly for beginning birders and stresses bird identification outdoors. The event will present keys to bird identification based on the AVES method developed by Wilhelm over 30 years of birding.
Wilhelm is a retired full professor from Slippery Rock University and has taught field ornithology and birding workshops on five continents since 1974.
He is coordinator for the International Spring Hawk Watch in Santa Ana and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuges, Texas, and a staff ornithologist-ecologist at The Nature Conservancy's Tensleep Preserve summer camp in Wyoming.
