BASEBALL Panezich, Ursuline pull past So. Range



Fitch split with Canton McKinley to stay atop the Federal League standings.
STRUTHERS -- Sean Satterlee had two hits, including a double, and Brad Borghetti had two hits to lead the Ursuline High baseball team past South Range 8-5 on Saturday at Cene Park.
Cliff Panezich (2-0) got the win in relief for the Irish (12-12). Chris Ziemianski added a double.
Joe Marino had two hits for South Range (12-6).
Fitch 7, Canton McKinley 2Canton McKinley 10, Fitch 4
CANTON -- Despite splitting the doubleheader, the Falcons still remain on top of the Federal League standings with a 6-4 record and the Bulldogs are second with a 5-4 mark.
John Mang (3-2) worked six innings to pick up the win in the first game for the Falcons.
In the four-run seventh inning, Fitch didn't get a hit, but capitalized on a hit batsman, passed ball, two walks, two stolen bases and five McKinley errors.
Senior shortstop Bob Nelnek had two singles, two sacrifices and drove in a run for the Falcons.
In the second game, McKinley (10-11) scored eight runs in the third inning as 13 batters went to the plate and accounted for four hits to go along with two errors, two hit batsmen, a passed ball, balk and sacrifice fly.
Jeff Kotel hit a triple, single and scored twice for the Falcons (15-5). Mang hit a pair of single and scored twice and Charly Olenych drove in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly.
Harding 2, Warren JFK 7
NILES -- Pat Elias, Ethan Taylor, Justin Byler and Willie Sekula all had two hits as Harding won the rain-suspended game at Eastwood Field.
John Flamino was the winning pitcher.
Marc Rossi homered and doubled for JFK. Mike Biviano and Mike Witherow had two hits for the Eagles.
Warren JFK 16, Mineral Ridge 10
NILES -- Mike Witherow, Marc Rossi, Steve Orlosky and Kevin Lee each had three hits for JFK (8-13).
Rossi's hits included two doubles. Also with doubles were Orlosky, Lee and Rich Stout.
For Mineral Ridge (6-10), Brandon Linert and Brian Palmer had two hits.
