SOFTBALL Mooney defeats LaBrae



Hubbard won to remain in the TAC race for first place.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A balanced attack carried the Cardinal Mooney High softball team to an 11-2 regular season win over LaBrae on Thursday.
Petrina Morocco had a double, a single and three RBIs while Dana Palazzo, Mimi Vitello and Gina Brunetti each had two singles for the Cardinals (16-7).
Palazzo scored three times and Vitello drove in two runs.
Stefanie Grimaldi (7-5) and Colleen Courtney combined to hold the Vikings (11-6) to four singles.
Hubbard 11, Lakeview 3
HUBBARD -- The Eagles (13-3, 10-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference) scored four runs in the first inning.
Kelly Hudy hit a home run and single and drove in four runs for the Eagles. Amanda Taylor (13-3), the winning pitcher, Loni Sargent and Brittany McKee each had two hits.
Jenn Baker and Brittney Bucco had two singles apiece for Lakeview (6-9, 5-7).
Ursuline 4, Howland 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Maureen Cearfoss (17-4) scattered seven singles with five strikeouts for the Irish (18-4).
Freshman Natalie Palermo went 3-for-3 and senior Brittani Shonce had two hits for Ursuline.
Carly Sabat and Christina Morrell each had two hits for the Tigers.
West Branch 6, Canton South 1
BELOIT -- Evelyn Woods had a double and a triple for the Warriors (10-11, 3-8 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Becky Rinyo went 3-for-3.
Canton South (7-11, 4-8) scored in the third to tie it 1-1, then the Warriors scored five times in the fourth.
Columbiana 6, Crestview 3
COLUMBIANA -- The Clippers rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Five Rebel errors and 10 stranded base runners hurt the Rebels.
