School board awards construction pacts

CAMPBELL -- During a special meeting this morning, the board of education awarded contracts for completion of the stadium renovation project to:
UAbderdeen Corp., Boardman, general trades, $204,700.
UCharniga Plumbing and Heating, Poland, plumbing, $27,300.
UEnertech Electrical, Lowellville, electrical, $29,612.
UR.T. Vernal Paving, North Lima, paving of the field and track, $305,250.
Because collective bids for completion of the project exceeded the budget of $568,000 -- by $48,344 -- low bids of $5,996 for heating, ventilation and cooling and $43,486 for fencing were rejected.
The board will readvertise for bids for fencing. After new bids are received, Superintendent Jim Ciccolelli said contracts for fencing should be awarded by early summer. Fencing installed in July should be completed in time for the first home football game in August, he said.
