ON THE SIDE. . .
ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
TOLD YOU SO: Occasionally I get something right when it comes to politics. I know it's hard to believe, but it happens every now and then. I mentioned last week that Randy Walter's certification as a nonparty candidate for the 17th Congressional District in the November general election was "one to watch" and he "didn't give himself much breathing room" with the number of signatures on his nominating petitions.
That was my polite way of saying Walter was going to get dumped off the ballot because he didn't have enough valid signatures. That's what happened to Walter earlier this week, when more than 38 percent of the signatures he submitted on nominating petitions were disqualified by the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
Abusive Chinese: U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, wrote a letter this week to President Bush urging him to open an investigation into allegations of labor abuses and currency manipulation by China. Ryan contends the U.S. manufacturing industry isn't receiving fair treatment in the international market because of those two reasons.
