Common pleas judge hands out probation

Some defendants must also make restitution.
MERCER, Pa. -- Several people were put on probation Thursday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court:
Judge John Reed placed Derick Coulter, 19, of Alantic, Pa., on three years' probation for burglary, a felony.
Coulter was the lookout during an Aug. 27 burglary at the Pleasant Acres Golf Course, 240 Tower Road, Green Township. Judge Reed said Coulter could have gotten nine to 18 months in jail but was given probation because he has not been in trouble before and his actions did not put anyone in jeopardy of serious harm. He was ordered to make restitution to the golf course jointly along with any others sentenced in the burglary.
Others sentenced included:
* Samuel Felton, 37, of Saul Avenue, Greenville, two years' probation for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. * April Richardson, 37, of Parke Drive, Hermitage, three years' probation plus restitution of $1,264 for theft by deception, a misdemeanor. According to court documents, Richardson took that amount of merchandise while employed at J.C. Penney at Shenango Valley Mall between last June and September.
