SEATTLE -- Freddy Garcia pitched seven innings to win for the first time this season, going to 4-0 lifetime against Minnesota and lowering his ERA to 2.11. Garcia (1-1) held the Twins to one run on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Eddie Guardado pitched a perfect ninth against his former team for his fifth save in seven chances.
Angels 7, Devil Rays 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jose Guillen hit his third homer in as many nights, a three-run shot that helped Anaheim to its sixth straight win. Aaron Sele (1-0) gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings.
Athletics 7, Yankees 4
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Rich Harden struck out nine in 72/3 innings in his first win of the season, and Oakland snapped the New York's' eight-game winning streak. Mark Kotsay matched his career high with four RBIs, helping the A's avoid their first three-game sweep by the Yankees in Oakland since May 31-June 2, 1996.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 11, Diamondbacks 3
CHICAGO -- Derrek Lee went 5-for-5 and drove in five runs and Matt Clement became Chicago's first five-game winner. Lee homered in setting a career high for hits. His three-run shot keyed a five-run fifth inning for the Cubs. Clement (5-1) allowed three runs and seven hits over seven innings in his fifth straight win.
Padres 7, Braves 3
ATLANTA -- Khalil Greene and Jay Payton homered, Brian Lawrence pitched seven innings and San Diego won for the ninth time in 12 games. The Padres scored three quick runs off Mike Hampton (0-3), who gave up six earned runs overall in 61/3 innings. Lawrence (4-2) allowed only five hits.
Cardinals 7, Phillies 4
PHILADELPHIA -- Hector Luna's three-run homer capped a five-run first inning and Jeff Suppan survived six innings for St. Louis. The Cardinals quickly ended Randy Wolf's 21-inning scoreless streak and improved to 9-3 on the road. Suppan (3-3) allowed six hits and four runs. Jason Isringhausen got four outs for his fourth save.
Expos 3, Rockies 1
MONTREAL -- Livan Hernandez escaped a ninth-inning jam and pitched a five-hitter for Montreal's first complete game of the season. Hernandez gave up a two-out single to Todd Helton and a double to Vinny Castilla, but struck out Jeromy Burnitz to end the game.
Dodgers 9, Marlins 4
MIAMI -- Shawn Green hit two of four Los Angeles homers and drove in four runs in support of Kazuhisa Ishii. Juan Encarnacion homered and knocked in three runs for Los Angeles, and Milton Bradley added a solo shot. Ishii (5-1) walked five in 62/3 innings but gave up just four hits and two runs. Eric Gagne extended his major league record to 72 consecutive saves.
Reds 9, Brewers 6
CINCINNATI -- Dropped below the cleanup spot for the first time in 14 years, Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. homered and drove in a season-high five runs. Griffey batted fifth, his lowest slot in the lineup since 1990 for Seattle.
Mets 2, Giants 1, 11 innings
NEW YORK -- Mike Piazza homered off Jim Brower (0-2) with two outs in the 11th inning, giving New York a three-game sweep. Barry Bonds, who missed three games with a sinus infection, was 0-for-3 with two walks.
