TRUMBULL COUNTY Hubbard worker injured in accident

HUBBARD -- An employee of Ellwood Engineered Castings Co. was injured, apparently not seriously, when the toolshed he was in collapsed this morning when it was struck by a piece of steel.
The company, at 7158 Hubbard-Masury Road, was not releasing his name.
"I know he was visibly shaken," said Dick Altomare, company controller. The employee was taken to Sharon Regional Health System's hospital.
Hubbard Township Police said a company-owned flatbed railroad car was being moved shortly after 8 a.m. when a piece of steel on top of the car struck the toolshed and collapsed it.
Police said the piece of steel was protruding off the right side of the flatbed when it struck the building, which was about 8 feet by 12 feet.
The township volunteer fire department was called to the scene, police said, because of initial reports that people were trapped in the building.
The injured worker was in the toolshed at the time but was not trapped. When Altomare saw the worker, he was sitting up with no visible signs of injury. Altomare said the worker was "extremely fortunate" and there was limited interruption to the business.
Ellwood makes cast iron ingot molds for the steel industry and automotive stamping dies.
