Two in hospital after truck crash
WEATHERSFIELD -- Two men were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center this morning after a tractor-trailer hit another vehicle, went through a guardrail and slid down a hill on Interstate 80 near the Salt Springs Road exit.
The names of the men, the drivers of each vehicle, were not released.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers at the scene said the accident occurred about 10 a.m., when the tractor-trailer tried to switch from the right to the left lane. The left lane was blocked, so the truck returned to the right lane, only to hit a vehicle parked in the berm. The driver of the vehicle was making a phone call when the accident occurred. After hitting the vehicle, the tractor-trailer, which was carrying wood, destroyed the guardrail and slid down a hill about 50 feet, coming to rest on its right side. The wood fell onto the hillside.
Troopers say speeding wasn't a factor.
