SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT Howland tops Harding behind Lewis
She pitched her second no-hitter of the year.
HOWLAND -- Howland pitcher Barbie Lewis pitched her second no-hitter of the season to lead the Tigers to a 4-0 win over Warren Harding in Tuesday's Division I sectional semifinal softball game.
Lewis (11-5) struck out 13 and walked one for Howland (11-7).
Desiree Sivera had three hits for the Tigers, while Lewis, Carly Sabat and Anastacia Filippidis each had two hits. Alyssa Thomas had two RBIs.
Harding fell to 9-4.
Division II
YOUNGSTOWN -- Vana Morgan pitched a two-hitter for the West Branch High softball team, which beat Rayen 18-1 in a Div. II sectional game.
Edie Allison, who drove in four runs and Ellie Geiger, who drove in three runs, each had four hits, with Allison hitting a home run and double.
Brittany Hines hit a double for the Tigers.
Struthers 17, Wilson 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two pitchers combined on a two-hitter and Michelle High hit two triples for Struthers.
Meghan Kunzer (3-3) and Michelle Zanni combined to limit Wilson to two hits in the five-inning game.
Struthers (7-10) will play at top-seeded Poland Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
The 11-hit Wildcat attack included doubles by Nicole McGuire and Teresa Vargin.
Holly Hickenbottom and Vargin each had two hits.
Ashtabula Edgewood 3, Niles 0
ASHTABULA -- Jackie Neczetorenko pitched a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts and just one walk for the second-seeded Warriors.
Jenn Besantif had two hits for Edgewood. Niles is 7-9.
Jefferson 2, Lakeview 1
JEFFERSON -- The Bulldogs (6-8) scored in the second inning and led 1-0 through five.
Jefferson (5-12) scored twice in the top of the sixth.
