SOFTBALL Canfield posts 1-0 win over Ursuline



Mineral Ridge defeated South Range twice to move closer to a league title.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Whitney Zunic doubled while Stephanie Zunic and Nikki Garrett each had two hits Wednesday as the Canfield High softball team shut out Ursuline, 1-0.
Canfield (12-6) sophomore Ashley Bleggi (6-2) threw a two-hitter at the Irish (17-4).
Mooney 6, Girard 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Gina Brunetti hit a pair of doubles to drive in three runs.
Dana Palazzo and Colleen Courtney each had two hits with a double apiece for the Cardinals (15-7).
Stefanie Grimaldi (6-5), Courtney and Petrina Morocco combined to hold Girard (8-15) to two hits. Sarah Britt doubled for the Indians.
Boardman 7, Massillon Perry 0
BOARDMAN -- Ashley DiDomenico (14-2) pitched a complete game as she scattered five hits with six strikeouts.
Jaclyn Corroto and DiDomenico hit back-to-back home runs for the Spartans (17-2, 7-1) in the Federal League contest.
Melanie Lodyn collected three singles, drove in three runs and stole a base for the Spartans. Sarah Albani hit a double and single, drove in a run, scored twice and stole a base.
Boardman and Canton GlenOak are tied for first place in the league. Perry fell to 11-7 and 3-5.
The Spartans travel to Poland today for a game set for 5 p.m.
Boardman's game with Lake set for Thursday has been rescheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. at the Field of Dreams.

NORTH LIMA -- The Rams got the only run in the bottom of the eighth inning to finish a contest suspended on April 21.
The Rams got the deciding run as Katie Garland led off with a double and Robin Zimmerman, who had three hits, singled. Gehring walked to fill the bases. Katie Olive singled home Garland.
Gehring went the distance and struck out 10 to pick up the win. Walley also went the distance and struck out seven.
Gehring also worked seven innings and had a double and two singles in the second game.
The Rams (14-4) lead the Inter-County League with a 9-1 record
Walley (5-9) also took the loss for the Raiders (5-10, 3-7).

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Krista Snyder pitched a compete game with nine strikeouts for the Tigers (14-2). Christy Warren hit a triple.
Crestview 8, Beaver Local 1
LISBON -- The Rebels put the game out of reach when they scored six runs in the fourth inning.
Kelsie Ray hit a home run, double and drove in four runs for the Rebels. Jen Harroff had four hits and three stolen bases.
