REGULAR SEASON BASEBALL Lake rallies to topple Fitch, 9-8
Boardman outlasted Canton GlenOak, while Canfield and Poland won MAC games.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Lake High baseball team scored four times in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to defeat Fitch, 9-8, and tighten up the Federal League standings.
Camden Carter had a homer and a double for the Blue Streaks (10-9, 4-4) who are in second place in the league.
The game was knotted at 5 after six innings and first-place Fitch (12-4, 4-3) scored three times in the last of the seventh.
Mike Eliseo had a single and a double while John Mang, Dom Modarelli and Jeff Kotel each had two hits for the Falcons.
Boardman 10, Canton GlenOak 9
CANTON -- Mike Evans homered and drove in four while Armani Johnson added a home run and three RBIs for Boardman.
Nate Tassik had three hits and Dan Ford added a double for the Spartans (10-10, 4-4), who gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Nick Roman had two homers and four RBIs for the Eagles (5-12, 4-4).
Canfield 15, Struthers 0
CANFIELD -- Chad Baker pitched and hit Canfield over Struthers in the Metro-Athletic Conference game.
Baker (4-0) pitched the first four innings of the two-hitter. Len Staffrey finished up for the Cardinals (20-3, 8-1).
Baker added a three-run homer in an 11-hit attack.
Canfield put the game away in the fourth inning, scoring 10 times.
Justin Kucek of Canfield and Dave Mathews of Struthers (3-12, 1-9) each hit doubles.
Mike Pulakos had two singles and two RBIs for the Cardinals.
Poland 6, Salem 5
POLAND -- Adam Wigley hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to help Poland rally from a 5-4 deficit.
Wigley finished with three RBIs for the Bulldogs (11-5, 6-2 MAC).
Jarin Heath went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double and Mark Kolich added three hits and two RBIs for Salem (12-6, 3-5).
Alliance 6, Niles 0
NILES -- The Aviators took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, then put the game away with a three-run spurt in the fifth inning.
Brandon Gordon hit a home run for Alliance.
Wilson 14, Rayen 5
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Redmen (4-13, 2-2 City Series) broke open the game by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning.
Matt McBride hit a triple, two singles, scored four times, stole two bases and drove in two runs for Wilson, which collected 17 hits.
Thomas Mulligan, Andre Figueroa and James Bailey also had three hits apiece.
Mooney 5, Chaney 3
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brennan Meenachan had two hits and John Grist added a triple to lead Mooney.
Joe Irwin (2-3) struck out 11 in six innings for the Cardinals (11-10). Senior shortstop Jeff Hehr, who recently signed a letter of intent to play for Eastern Michigan, had a double.
Adam Boris had two hits, including a double, for the Cowboys.
Springfield 3, East Palestine 2
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Aaron Wood hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th with runners on second and third to lift Springfield.
Melio Rios had two hits and four stolen bases for the Tigers (11-8), while Andrew Berry had four strikeouts in relief to pick up his first win.
Trevor Glavan had two hits and an RBI for East Palestine.
Crestview 5, United 1
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Ken Wagonhouser threw a complete game three-hitter to earn his first victory of the season for Crestview in a Tri-County League game.
Wagonhouser improved to 1-4 for Crestview (5-10, 4-5), while Greg Brown had two hits.
Rob Muhleman had two hits and Joe Briceland had a triple for United.
West Branch 4, Carrollton 2
CARROLLTON -- Tad Gaspar (3-4) scattered four hits as he pitched a complete game to pick up the win.
Tom Orlando hit a double and two singles and drove in a run for the Warriors (10-6, 9-4) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
