Settlement is due on landmark

YOUNGSTOWN -- A settlement agreement involving the closed Wick Pollock Inn is due in the Court of Claims of Ohio on or before June 1, court documents show.
Attorneys for Youngstown State University and First National Bank of Pennsylvania have told the Columbus-based court that settlement papers regarding the century-old mansion will be filed by that date.
Though YSU owns the Wick Avenue inn, FNB holds a lien on a 64-room addition built in the late 1980s by a partnership that leased the space from YSU. The partnership closed the inn in 1998, citing waning business, and the building has sat vacant ever since.
YSU sued to evict the bank two years ago. FNB asked for $2.5 million in damages because YSU prevented the reopening of the inn as student housing.
YSU President David C. Sweet has said he wants to reopen the inn with 50 suites and rooms, a catering/restaurant facility and a complex that would house YSU's hospitality management academic program.
This week, he is expected to attend presentations on the inn's possible reopening by students in the university's executive master of business administration program.
Three teams of students have come up with recommendations on reopening the inn, which will be presented to the university community Friday.
