Murray, Grayson, Golden, Davis some of the Trumbull standouts
The county meet is today and Thursday.
CORTLAND -- Cachet Murray, Jennifer Grayson, Shane Golden and Tony Davis are some of the area's best athletes who will compete in the Trumbull County track and field meet at Lakeview High today and Thursday.
Both the girls and boys 4x800-meter relays, girls discus and long jump and boys shot put and high jump finals are scheduled for today at 4 p.m. Preliminaries and semifinals in the sprints, hurdles and relays will also be held.
Thursday at 4 p.m., the boys discus and long jump and girls shot put and high jump are slated and the rest of the running finals are set to start at 5 p.m.
Champion is the returning girls champion in a field of 18 teams.
Murray, of Girard, will defend her titles in the 100, 200 and the long jump, events that she set records in last year.
She will be challenged by last Saturday's Lakeview Invitational dash winner, Katie Betts, Liberty's Jasmine Smith and Brittny Humphrey and Champion's Brittany Bako and Moran Kemp.
Hurdlers
The 100 and 300 hurdles will feature Jalene Davis of Warren Harding, Jessica Nasci of Brookfield, Rachel Crafton of Hubbard, Angeline Cicero of Warren JFK and Grayson of Maplewood, who is also entered in the high jump and long jump.
Tara Ford of Mathews is the athlete to beat in the high jump (5-3) and the long jump (16-7). Erica Wittenauer of Hubbard, Nicole Saunders of Howland and Alynn Martin of Lakeview are three of the area's best athletes entered in the 400.
Howland returns to defend its title against 19 other schools in the boys' division.
John F. Kennedy's Golden (last year's MVP), Matt Gillespie and Anthony Barnes of Newton Falls, Richard Davis of Warren Harding, Craig Schrecengost of Mathews and Antwan Chilton of Liberty will contend in the sprints.
Barnes (22 feet, 31/2 inches) of the Tigers and Greg Dominic (21-9) of Mineral Ridge go into the long jump with the area's top two efforts. Shaun Lane (20-81/2) of Hubbard is the defending champ.
The shot put will feature Anthony Hoke of Warren Harding, Dusty Rose of Howland and Steve Burkholder of Champion.
