Checklist helps when mishap occurs

Dear Heloise: After having an accident recently and not having anything to write the pertinent information on except a checkbook cover, I went home and made a checklist on my computer. I left a line to put all the necessary information (the other person's name, address, home and work phone numbers, driver's license number, car make, model and color, and license-plate number). Then I put an extra line to write the insurance company, policy number, expiration date, agent's name, address and phone number.
At the bottom of the paper, I can draw a sketch of the accident and name the damages. Mary Brumfield, Dallas
It sounds like you have all the bases covered. Heloise
Dear Heloise: For readers with hearing aids who use batteries with "easy tabs" and need to keep track of when the battery was changed and when it will need changing again (depending on usage), try this: Simply stick the "easy tab" on your calendar on the square for the current date and indicate in which ear the new battery was used. Donna Rogers, Glouster
Dear Heloise: To keep up with the birthdays in our large, blended family, I note on a calendar each birthday. Instead of sending a store-bought card, I use decorated computer paper (with confetti or balloons) to write a short letter to the birthday person.
This saves me money on cards, and it gives the receiver a birthday letter to cherish because it was written especially for him or her. After I mail it, I put a check mark on the calendar by the name. This works well for me. Lucinda McConeghy, Bowie, Texas
Dear Heloise: I have an elderly neighbor who frequently shows up at our doorstep to tell us something or to ask a favor of us, which we are always happy to oblige.
I think she has a problem reading phone books or even her own address book, so I found a recent snapshot of my husband and me, wrote our phone number in bold print on the border and laminated it to some magnets. She can put it on her fridge, recognize us and know what number to call if she needs us. A Reader, Via E-mail
Dear Heloise: My closet was being overtaken by cotton tank tops until I realized they hang just as nicely three or four to a hanger as they do one to a hanger. Now I arrange them with the black ones on one hanger, pink ones on another, whites on still another and assorted colors on the remaining hangers. I was using 27 hangers before and am down to seven -- I love the extra space! Barbara Montgomery, Via E-mail
Dear Heloise: My daughter hosted a baby shower. When we went in, she gave us an envelope to write our name and address on. She used these to draw door prizes, and then they were used to mail thank-you cards. Another gift for the mother-to-be. A Reader, Via E-mail
