Boy to get wish thanks to GM, union
LORDSTOWN -- Five-year-old Michael Hood of Austintown will get to spend a week with celebrities like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and employees of the General Motors Corp. in Lordstown.
Hood, who suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, will spend a week with his family in Florida after first being treated to a local luncheon.
Workers from the GM Lordstown fabrication plant, who sponsored the trip with United Auto Workers-General Motors, will host the Hood family at noon Thursday at the plant, 2369 Ellsworth-Bailey Road. The family will also be given a plant tour.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is designed to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy.
In 2002-03, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast Ohio, based in Cleveland, fulfilled the wishes of 141 local children.
