Web site offers helpful information for travelers

Dear Heloise: I was delighted that you referred a writer seeking roadway information to the Federal Highway Administration's National Traffic and Road Closure Information Web site at www.fhwa.dot.gov/trafficinfo, making your readers aware of this useful information.
You might also want to let your readers know that in certain parts of the country, they can dial 511 to get up-to-date information on local traffic, transit and weather. The three-digit number is easy to remember, and travelers have found the information especially useful during the winter season. To find out where 511 is currently available, readers should click on the link "511 -- America's Traveler Information Telephone Number" on the same National Traffic and Road Closure Information Web site. Mary Peters, Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation
Mary, thanks for the update. Readers can check the Web site to see if their state has this service. Heloise
Fast facts: I just read your four handy ways to use margarine tubs. I couldn't resist adding some of our family's favorites:
UMargarine tubs with lids make great food and water bowls for small dogs and cats while traveling. When we arrive at a rest area, it is so easy to walk them and let them have something to eat and drink.
UMargarine tubs also make great snack bowls at home or on an outing, especially for kids. You don't have to worry about the kids carrying around something that could break and hurt them. If the bowls are lost, nobody gets upset.
UMargarine tubs are great for storing homemade modeling clay, which always keeps longer when kept in the refrigerator. Susan Armstrong, Athens
Dear Heloise: I have read a lot lately about different recipes for deviled eggs. They all sound delicious, and I plan on giving some of them a try. Here's a question for you: Why do they call them "deviled" eggs? Sylvia Palmer from Ohio
After a little checking, we found that the term "devil" comes from the use of hot spices along with the yolk mixture. Deviled eggs might also be called "stuffed" or "dressed" eggs. Heloise
Dear Heloise: Thought I'd share this one with you. For those of us who live too far away for pizza-delivery routes but still want warm pizzas when we get them home, try placing them in those large, insulated bags. These bags are sold in many department stores to transport frozen or hot items safely to your home from the grocery store. Why not also let it keep your pizza warm to your door? Grateful Reader, via e-mail
Sound off: If folks are calling us on the phone, why don't they have the patience to let us answer it? Three or four rings is not enough time to get to the phone. Not all of us have phones attached to our hips. Bertha from Pennsylvania
