VH1 is jumping on the makeover-show bandwagon, but it's decided not to include massive cosmetic surgery in its self-improvement toolbox.
Instead, the six women taking part in the show will have to remake themselves the old-fashioned way -- by working out with exclusive personal trainers, eating meals prepared by a personal chef and taking sartorial advice from celebrity stylists.
Such is the premise of "Flab to Fab," which VH1 will air as one-hour specials on May 10 and May 24. Proceeding from the dubious notion that "Rock stars always look like a million bucks" (hello? Keith Richards? Iggy Pop?), the shows will take six women who aspire to pop-diva hotness and put them through a 90-day program of diet and exercise to get them there.
Actress/fitness trainer A.J. Johnson ("Baby Boy," "School Daze") serves as host.
Routines
Unlike sister network MTV's "I Want a Famous Face," none of the women will go under the knife to achieve their goals. Three of them will pattern their workouts after that of Jennifer Lopez, while the others follow Beyonc & eacute;'s regimen. All six will have meals prepared by Annalisa Mastroianni, a personal chef who's cooked for Alyson Hannigan, Kristin Davis and Cher, among others.
At the end of the 90 days, those who meet their goals get a shopping spree at Saks -- guided by a stylist, of course -- a party at a hip Hollywood night spot and a one-year gym membership. And, presumably, elevated self-esteem and whatnot.
