NEW YORK -- Mike Mussina pitched seven innings and Hideki Matsui hit a go-ahead single as New York won its sixth straight game. The Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Royals, who have dropped four in a row and 14 of 17. Joe Torre got his 800th win as Yankee manager. Mussina (2-4) gave up two runs, but did not allow a hit after the fourth inning. Mariano Rivera got his ninth save in nine chances. Jason Giambi hits his fifth homer.
Devil Rays 8, Athletics 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Rocco Baldelli hit a two-run homer and Mark Hendrickson pitched six innings as Tampa Bay snapped a six-game losing streak. Hendrickson (1-2) allowed two runs and six hits. His victory snapped a stretch of 20 consecutive winless starts by Tampa Bay left-handers dating to Joe Kennedy's win against Toronto last May 13. Eric Byrnes homered for Oakland, which has dropped nine of 13.
Angels 3, Twins 1
MINNEAPOLIS -- John Lackey pitched seven innings, and Jose Guillen's tie-breaking, two-run single in the eighth gave Anaheim its eighth win in 10 games. Troy Percival retired Henry Blanco on a routine fly with the bases loaded for his seventh save. Michael Cuddyer homered for Minnesota, its only run in the last two games. Lackey (2-3) allowed six hits in seven innings, striking out five for his second straight win.
White Sox 3, Blue Jays 2
CHICAGO -- Jon Garland gave up two runs in seven-plus innings and Frank Thomas homered as Chicago took three of four from Toronto. Garland (2-1) allowed 10 hits and struck out five. Billy Koch pitched the ninth for his third save. Gregg Zaun went 4-for-4 for Toronto, tying his career high for hits.
Mariners 12, Tigers 2
DETROIT -- Gil Meche pitched six innings, Scott Spiezio hit a two-run homer and Brett Boone hit a three-run shot as Seattle set a season high for runs. John Olerud drove in three runs, and Raul Ibanez and Randy Winn each had three hits for the Mariners. Meche (1-2) allowed two runs and four hits, and three relievers finished with three hitless innings.
Rangers 4, Red Sox 1
ARLINGTON, Texas -- R.A. Dickey came within one out of a shutout, and Texas completed a three-game sweep. Alfonso Soriano and David Dellucci homered for the Rangers, who have won four straight and eight of nine. They have won seven straight at home. Dickey (4-1) set down 14 straight batters during one stretch. The right-hander allowed four hits in winning his third consecutive start.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cardinals 1, Cubs 0, 10 innings
ST. LOUIS -- Scott Rolen lined a bases-loaded single to the warning track in the 10th inning. Kyle Farnsworth (0-2) walked Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds on full counts to load the bases, and the outfield was drawn in when Rolen lined to left. The Cardinals have won two of three in the four-game series, both in their final at-bat. Carlos Zambrano had a career-best 12 strikeouts for the Cubs, matching zeros with Matt Morris, who allowed four hits in nine scoreless innings for St. Louis.
Astros 6, Reds 5
HOUSTON -- Brad Ausmus' suicide squeeze scored Lance Berkman and capped a three-run rally in the eighth inning for Houston. The victory was Houston's fourth straight, while the Reds have lost five in a row. Adam Dunn hit his ninth homer in the eighth for Cincinnati.
Phillies 6, Diamondbacks 5, 14 innings
PHILADELPHIA -- Ricky Ledee drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the 14th inning. After the Diamondbacks took a 5-4 lead in the 14th on Matt Kata's RBI single, Philadelphia rallied against Oscar Villarreal (0-2). Pinch-hitter David Bell hit an RBI double to tie it and three batters later Ledee drew the walk, scoring pinch-runner Randy Wolf.
Rockies 13, Braves 4
DENVER -- Luis Gonzalez hit a three-run homer and Colorado took advantage of seven errors by Atlanta -- including four by third baseman Mark DeRosa. The Braves tied a franchise record with their seven miscues, which led to eight unearned runs by the Rockies. Shawn Estes (4-1) pitched seven innings to become the fourth National League pitcher to win four games.
Mets 6, Padres 2
SAN DIEGO -- Tom Glavine pitched six innings and drove in a run, helping New York snap San Diego's six-game winning streak. Glavine (4-1) scattered five hits, struck out six and reached base three times. He earned his 255th career win. Danny Garcia hit his first homer of the season in the ninth for the Mets.
Expos 6, Dodgers 4
LOS ANGELES -- Orlando Cabrera hit a tie-breaking home run in the sixth inning to help Montreal snap a six-game losing streak. Sun-Woo Kim (1-0) earned his first win in the majors since July 2, 2002, allowing two runs and four hits over five innings with four strikeouts. The Korean-born right-hander entered the game with a streak of 112/3 scoreless innings, all in relief. Juan Rivera had a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth and Brad Wilkerson went deep in the ninth, giving the Expos their first three-homer game this season.
Giants 9, Marlins 8, 11 innings
SAN FRANCISCO -- Yorvit Torrealba hit a second-inning grand slam, then doubled home Barry Bonds in the 11th inning. Torrealba, the Giants' backup catcher, had three hits in San Francisco's third straight victory over Florida. Bonds, who spent the early part of the day recuperating from minor sinus problems, drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Brian Dallimore's single off Matt Perisho (2-2). Torrealba drove a double off the wall in left-center, and Bonds jogged home. Tyler Walker (2-0) got his second victory in three days. He struck out Mike Lowell with two runners on in the 10th, then pitched a hitless 11th.
