POLAND -- AWARE (the Alliance for Watershed Action and Riparian Easements), Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and Poland Village will have a Stream Cleanup Day on May 15.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the College Street parking lot to Poland Woods to work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gloves and bags will be provided for the volunteers, and light refreshments will be served. The first 40 volunteers will receive a tree seedling and a T-shirt.

Part of road to close
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Engineer's Office will close a portion of Shields Road, between East Newport and Sheban drives in Boardman Township, for replacement of a bridge over Mill Creek. The road will close May 10 and remain closed until Aug. 20. Detours will be posted during that time.
ACTION plans events
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods is having two events, including its fifth annual banquet at 6:30 p.m. May 10 at Stambaugh Auditorium. ACTION leaders will speak. For ticket information, call (330) 744-7979.
ACTION will also have its second Holy Ground Campaign at 9 a.m. May 8 at Holy Bible Church of God, 54 St. Louis Ave. Grounds around the church will be declared holy, and marchers will demand that nearby abandoned buildings be torn down and drug houses be closed.
There will be a report on progress since the first march was held April 10 at St. Patrick Church.
Fund-raiser planned
CHAMPION -- The Trumbull Career and Technical Center Levy Renewal Committee will have a Swiss steak dinner fund-raiser from 5-7 p.m. May 13 in the school cafeteria.
Costs are $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger.

City's 2010 events
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two Youngstown 2010 events are scheduled this week.
The third in a series of 11 neighborhood planning meetings will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday on the West Side at the Ukrainian Orthodox Center, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave.
There will be a one-hour town hall-style meeting concerning Youngstown 2010 that will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Wednesday on PBS 45 & amp;49 and simulcast on WYSU-FM. Jay Williams, director of the city Community Development Agency, will moderate the discussion. The meeting will be in the Chestnut Room at the Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
Village spring cleanup
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The village spring cleanup will be May 17-21. BFI will pick up extra on May 18-19, Wolford's on May 20 and WasteTech on May 21.
As in the past, no tires, refrigeration units, concrete, paint or hazardous waste will be accepted. Also, no tree limbs over 36 inches in length or more than 7 inches in diameter and no batteries will be taken.
Landfill foes to meet
HUBBARD -- Hubbard Environmental & amp; Land Preservation will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township administration building.
HELP is a citizens group against the proposed landfill in the township.
