MLS ROUNDUP | Saturday's games
Earthquakes 1, United 1
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Dema Kovalenko scored on a header in the 66th minute to give D.C. United a tie with San Jose in Freddy Adu's first Major League Soccer start. The Earthquakes' Troy Dayak opened the scoring in the 33rd minute on a header off Jeff Agoos' free kick. San Jose paid close attention to Adu, the 14-year-old rookie who came off the bench in his club's first four games. Brian Mullan fouled Adu in the 70th minute to set up a United free kick just outside the San Jose penalty area. Four minutes later, Adu had an 18-yard shot deflected over the goal line. United coach Peter Nowak replaced Adu with Alecko Eskandarian in the 80th minute. Adu helped attract a crowd of 17,667, San Jose's biggest since Sept. 21, 2002, when the Quakes drew 26,229 for a 1-0 loss to Los Angeles.
Wizards 2, Rapids 0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tony Meola earned his MLS-record 51st shutout, and Chris Klein and Josh Wolff scored for Kansas City. The Wizards (2-1-1) played a man down after defender Jose Burciaga Jr. was issued a red card for an elbow to the face of Colorado's Matt Crawford in stoppage time at the end of the half. Colorado dropped to 1-1-2.
Revolution 2, Galaxy 1
FOXBORO, Mass. -- Jose Cancela scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute for New England. Joe Franchino gave New England (1-2-1) the lead in the fifth minute. The Galaxy (2-1-2) ruined Adin Brown's shutout bid in the final seconds of stoppage time on Alejandro Moreno's goal.
Crew 0, Burn 0
COLUMBUS -- Goalkeeper Jon Busch was helped by the crossbar and the post, and Columbus tied Dallas. The tie gave the Crew (0-3-1) its first point of the season. Well into first-half injury time, a header by Eddie Johnson bounced off Columbus midfielder Kyle Martino, who was standing on the goal line. The ball struck the crossbar, then hit Martino again before Busch was able to grab it. Scott Garlick had six saves for Dallas (2-0-2).
Fire 3, MetroStars 0
CHICAGO -- Dipsy Selolwane, Damani Ralph and Ante Razov scored goals, and Henry Ring had his MLS-leading fourth shutout in five games this season for Chicago (2-1-2). The MetroStars dropped to 2-1-1.
