Theater event is celebration of Sharpsville group's history
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- The Sharpsville Area Historical Society is celebrating the naming of its headquarters as a national historic site with its first community theater experience.
The society will offer a cabaret-style performance featuring romantic songs and scenes from various Broadway shows at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Chloe Pierce Community Chapel, 131 N. Mercer Ave.
The society is based in the chapel, the former First Universalist Church of Sharpsville built in the early 1880s and funded by Chloe Pierce.
The church is a model of Ruskinian Gothic design and is made of red pressed brick with Amherst bluestone trim.
It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which recognizes the historical architectural or cultural merits of properties.
"A Night of Broadway Romance" will be directed by David and Lois Schneider and will feature a number of local performers. A donation of $10 per person is suggested, and reservations are requested as seating is limited. For tickets, call Judy Grandy at (724) 962-4248. All proceeds benefit the society.
