DEDICATION Chuck Tanner



The Shenango High School baseball field will be dedicated to Chuck Tanner, Lawrence County resident and former Pittsburgh Pirates manager.
When: 11:30 a.m. July 31, Shenango High School, Ellwood Road, New Castle.
What: The ceremony will be free and followed by a $5 per person autograph session with former Pittsburgh Pirates. Proceeds will be used for the field. Refreshments will be provided by Giant Eagle.
Tickets for the autograph session: On sale at Giant Eagle stores in Shenango and Neshannock townships; Shenango High School; Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, 138 W. Washington St., and Augustine's Italian Village, 833 E. Lutton St., New Castle.
The field: A monument will be erected in Tanner's honor outlining his accomplishments in major league baseball and as a student at Shenango High. A flag pole also will be dedicated in honor of local veteran Mike Banko who died last year.
Fund-raiser: To help pay for the event and upkeep of the field, personalized bricks leading up to the monument are being sold for $100 each.
