STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Aree Song celebrated her 18th birthday by hanging on to the lead.
To earn a place in history, all the teenager has to do is hold off Annika Sorenstam and everyone else on a daunting leaderboard at the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship.
Song shot a 2-under-par 70 in the third round Saturday, giving herself a chance to become the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history.
It won't be easy.
Sorenstam, the world's No. 1 player, is just two strokes behind heading into the final round at Eagle's Landing Country Club south of Atlanta. So are Grace Park, who won the first major of the year, and Se Ri Pak, the defending Chick-fil-A champion.
Song showed up Saturday wearing a shirt that had "I'm 18 and Excited" emblazoned across the front. Her hat carried the logo "Birthday Girl." After finishing her second straight round without a bogey, she lit the candles on a chocolate cake sent by her agent.
If she hangs on for another 18 holes -- weather permitting -- Song would become the youngest LPGA winner ever. Hall of Famer Marlene Hagge was 18 years, 14 days old when she won the Sarasota Open in 1952.
HP Classic
NEW ORLEANS -- The sun finally came out at the HP Classic on Saturday and Danny Ellis made the most of it.
Ellis played the last nine holes of the first round he began on Thursday, going 5-under on them for a 9-under 63. He then shot a 6-under 66 for a two-day total of 129 and a one-shot lead in the $5.1 million tournament.
Masters champion Phil Mickelson, in his first tournament since winning the green jacket at Augusta, was three shots back.
Ellis was one of the lucky players at the weather-plagued tournament -- he actually completed two rounds.
The first round was delayed by bad weather and then postponed because of darkness. A heavy, daylong rain Friday prevented play. That put 75 golfers, including Ellis, out at 7 a.m. Saturday to complete the first round. Second-round play began at 8:15 a.m.
A large system of severe weather approaching the area and the threat of lightning caused play to be suspended at 4:29 p.m. Saturday. A little more than an hour later, play was postponed again with 77 players still on the course.
Weather permitting, the second round was to be finished early today. The cut would then be made, with the third round expected to begin about 10:30 a.m. Officials hoped to complete the third round today and play the fourth round Monday.
Bruno's
HOOVER, Ala. -- Bruce Fleisher's 4-under 68 Saturday built a four-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Bruno's Memorial Classic.
D.A. Weibring shot his second straight 68, while Hale Irwin, Jay Sigel and defending champion Tom Jenkins were five strokes back. Dave Eichelberger also bogeyed the final hole to fall six shots behind Fleisher.
