Sabathia's shoulder needs rest, team says

DETROIT (AP) -- Cleveland Indians ace C.C. Sabathia will miss his scheduled start on Thursday, but will not have to go on the disabled list with a sore left shoulder.
Sabathia visited Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday, and Andrews concurred with a diagnosis by Indians doctors, who feel a little rest will help the left-hander.
"The exam was a positive one," said Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff, who accompanied Sabathia to see Andrews. "It confirmed our thoughts. C.C. has some mild irruption in his shoulder. It's not a long-term problem. It was more of a fluke thing."
Sabathia caught his cleat on the mound in the first inning of a start Saturday against Colorado. He left the game after just one inning with soreness similar to that which sidelined him for two weeks in April.
Sabathia's next start will be pushed back to Monday at home against Texas.
With Sabathia (5-3, 2.77 ERA) moved back, Cliff Lee, scheduled to start Friday in Cincinnati, will pitch Thursday against the Tigers.
