MERCER COUNTY Man faces jail time for escape

MERCER, Pa. -- A Hermitage man will go to Mercer County Jail for felony escape and unauthorized use of a vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Timothy Hassan, 23, of Sheridan Street, was sentenced Tuesday by Judge John Reed of common pleas court to three to six months in jail followed by five years' probation for escape and two to four months followed by 18 months' probation for unauthorized use. The terms were ordered to be served concurrently.
On Dec. 2, 2003, according to court documents, Hassan was detained at the Mercer County Jail, 138 S. Diamond St., for a parole violation when he failed to return from work release. On the same day, Hassan drove another man's car without his permission at McQuaid's Sunoco, 1726 Valley View Road, Hermitage.
Also sentenced Tuesday:
UVicki Malone, 49, of Columbia Street, Sharon, was placed on one year's probation and ordered to pay $985 restitution for welfare fraud, a misdemeanor. According to court documents, between Oct. 1999 and April 2000 she collected food coupons or public assistance while failing to disclose wages she received from an employer.
UJulie Rossi, 22, of Pa. Route 208, Pulaski, was placed on one year's probation and ordered to pay $3,680 restitution for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. According to court records, on Jan. 10, at a Hermitage restaurant, she struck a woman in the face and head with a cell phone and her hand, causing a concussion. She also struck another woman in the eye.
UAnita Scheller, 34, of Malleable Street, Sharon, was placed on three years' probation for retail theft. The offense is a felony because it is the third or subsequent conviction. On Sept. 18, 2003, according to court documents, Scheller was caught at a Farrell grocery store stealing $89 worth of merchandise, including cereal, beverages, cleaning supplies, meat and dog food.
