HOYT INSTITUTE Summer art camp aimed at kids 3-16



The art classes run for three weeks in July.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Children's Summer Art Camp at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts will take children ages 3 through 16 on an exploration of "Art Through the Ages."
The camp runs in three weeks from Tuesday through July 9, July 13 to 16 and July 20 to 23. Hours are 9 to 11 a.m. each day.
The camp is designed to be fun but educational. Each age group has the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the projects they will complete each week as they move from ancient arts in the first week to Renaissance art and modern art in weeks two and three. Four certified art teachers will lead the camp.
Age groups
Children as young as 3 will work on projects such as Dino Dinorama, wall hangings or Jackson Pollock drip paintings. Susan Danzo will lead the 3-to-5-year-old program.
Beth Maygan will lead the 6-to-8-yea3r-old group in projects that include spirit masks, cave prints, mosaic, printmaking, sculptures and mobiles.
Natalie Bell will lead the 9-to-12-year-old group in projects that include papier-m & acirc;ch & eacute; cave tools, cave drawings, figure drawing, a modern-day "Mona Lisa" painting, and portrait projects using digital photography in a fantasy landscape and geometric shapes in paint and pastels.
Children ages 13 to 16 will work on projects such as Egyptian plaster relief sculptures and self-portraits in the styles of Andy Warhol and Chuck Close. Jamie Williams will instruct the group.
Classes are $30 per week, with a discount for enrolling all three weeks.
