Health issues force Loretta Lynn to cancel
HURRICANE MILLS, Tenn. -- Loretta Lynn is recuperating from double pneumonia and has postponed three concerts, including a show at her Hurricane Mills ranch.
Her daughters, Peggy and Patsy, along with her band, The Coal Miners, will perform in Lynn's place at a July 3 concert for a nominal admission fee, said Lynn spokesman William Smithson.
Fans also can return tickets to the point of purchase for a refund, Smithson said.
Two other concerts, July 9-10 at Falls View Casino in Niagara Falls, N.Y., also have been postponed and will be rescheduled, Smithson said.
Lynn had to postpone several recent shows because of a back ailment. The 69-year-old singer then was hospitalized for double pneumonia. She is now recovering at her home.
A posting on her Web site, http://www.lorettalynn.com, says: "Loretta sends her heartfelt thanks to all of her fans for their love and support and looks forward to seeing them on the road again soon."
Lynn's hits include "Rated X," "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" and her signature song, "Coal Miner's Daughter." Her latest album, "Van Lear Rose," was produced by Jack White of the White Stripes.
Keith Richards signs on to perform at tribute
LOS ANGELES -- The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards has signed on to perform at two concerts next month paying tribute to late country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons.
Richards will join a lineup including Norah Jones, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Dwight Yoakam, among others, for "Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons," organizers said Monday.
The shows are scheduled July 9 at the Santa Barbara Bowl and July 10 at the Universal Amphitheatre.
Proceeds will benefit the Musicians' Assistance Program, which helps members of the music industry pay for drug and alcohol addiction treatment.
Many consider Parsons, who died in 1973, to be among the first musicians to blend the melodies of country music with the drive of rock 'n' roll.
He never had a hit as a solo performer or during stints with the International Submarine Band, the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers, but his style influenced many who followed, including the Eagles, Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris.
Daughter Polly Parsons decided to organize the concert tributes after a conversation with Richards two years ago, she said in a statement.
