Bikers honor fallen cop
BEAVER, Pa. (AP) -- Several thousand motorcycles rumbled through three states for a fund-raiser in honor of a rookie police officer who was gunned down as he walked his beat three years ago. The bikers traveled 100 miles through West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania on Sunday to raise money for scholarships in honor of officer James Naim, who was killed execution-style at an Aliquippa housing complex on March 15, 2001. "It still hurts. There are still painful days, but I guess I've learned to deal with it better," said Gallina Naim, the officer's widow, who took part in the ride in a police cruiser. The couple had been married for about three years when Naim was shot. Organizers said they were not sure how much money the ride raised for scholarship funds at the Community College of Beaver County, where local officers were trained, and Geneva College, where James Naim had been a student. One of two men tried in Naim's slaying was convicted of third-degree murder and sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison. The other was acquitted.
