YOUNGSTOWN -- A program for nonprofit organizations on seeking grants will be at the Main Library Meeting Room, 305 Wick Ave., at 6:30 p.m. July 7.
Reservations are being taken for "Grantseeking Basics: An Orientation to the Funding Research Process," which serves as an introduction to the Grant Center.
The program is free and open to representatives of nonprofit organizations seeking information on funding sources and fund raising. The course is not open to individuals seeking funds.
Reservations can be placed by calling Main Library, (330) 744-8636, and pressing "2" at the phone prompt for "Reference Information."
Promoting filmmaking
YOUNGSTOWN -- Richard Ouzounian, founder of the Youngstown-Warren film commission, will be the speaker at the next Youngstown Area Entertainment District Association meeting at 6 p.m. July 12 in the auditorium on the second floor of the Ohio One Building downtown.
Ouzounian's objective is to bring movie making to Youngstown.
Flag disposal ceremony
POLAND -- The fifth annual flag disposal ceremony sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15 will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the post, 35 Cortland St. The public is invited.
Worn, frayed, torn or faded American flags will be honorably retired.
Flags may be dropped off at the post in the receptacle marked "flag disposal."
Commissioners meeting
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County commissioners will have their weekly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of Neshannock High School.
Commissioners normally meet each Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the courthouse. They agreed earlier this year to meet the last Tuesday of each month at each of the eight county schools.
Newton Falls schools
NEWTON FALLS -- The village school board will meet in special session at 7 a.m. July 7 in room 101 of the high school, 907 Milton Blvd., to approve technology bids and conduct other business that board members deem necessary.
Board members also rescheduled the regular July meeting to 6:30 p.m. July 21 in the high school auditorium. The meeting had been set for July 14.
Honoring slain cop
BEAVER, Pa. (AP) -- Several thousand motorcycles rumbled through three states for a fund-raiser in honor of a rookie police officer who was gunned down as he walked his beat three years ago.
The bikers traveled 100 miles through West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania on Sunday to raise money for scholarships in honor of officer James Naim, who was killed execution-style at an Aliquippa housing complex March 15, 2001.
