COLUMBUS -- A rare Columbus Crew own goal and a score by Colorado forward Jean Philippe Peguero gave the Rapids a victory.The Rapids are unbeaten in their last three games.Second-half substitute Edson Buddle scored for the Crew in the 89th minute, but Columbus missed a chance to tie in extra time when Chad Marshall's header was cleared off the Colorado goal line by midfielder Chris Henderson.Both teams missed promising scoring opportunities in the first half before Colorado connected in the 37th minute. Midfielder Matt Crawford crossed a ball into the penalty area from the left side, where it was met by Peguero.Peguero bulled past Crew midfielder Eric Denton and fired the ball by goalkeeper Jon Busch from 7 yards for his fourth goal of the season.Denton added to his team's misery eight minutes later when his attempt to defend Crawford's centering pass went into his net. Denton's own goal was the first recorded by a Columbus player since the 2002 season.Buddle's goal was his second of the year.
Burn 1, D.C. United 1
DALLAS -- Jason Kreis became the career goals leader in MLS history, scoring in the 37th minute in the Dallas Burn's tie with D.C. United.Alecko Eskandarian had a goal in the 58th minute to help United salvage the tie on a soggy Cotton Bowl field.Kreis' 89th career goal broke the record held by Roy Lassiter. Kreis took a pass from Oscar Pareja and placed a left-footed shot into the left corner of the net.Eskandarian tied the score with his fourth goal of the season. Bobby Convey set up the goal when he crossed to a streaking Eskandarian from the left flank.The outcome left the Burn at 4-4-4 and United at 4-5-5.Freddy Adu entered for United in the 75th minute but did not take any shots.
Revolution 2, MetroStars 1
FOXBORO, Mass. -- Felix Brilliant and Clint Dempsey scored early in the second half to lead the New England Revolution to a win over the New York-New Jersey MetroStars.The Revolution (3-7-3) snapped a three match losing streak and snapped a two-game win streak for the MetroStars (5-4-4).New England took the lead on a goal by Brilliant in the 64th minute. Dempsey scored his fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute. Passes from midfielder Patrick Noonan fed both goals.For the MetroStars, Amado Guevara converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute after New England goalie Matt Reis took down Mike McGee on a loose ball in the penalty box.
