MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER Kreis becomes league's career leader in 1-1 tie

The Dallas player scored his 89th career goal against D.C. United.
DALLAS (AP) -- Jason Kreis became the career goals leader in MLS history, scoring in the 37th minute in the Dallas Burn's 1-1 tie with D.C. United on Saturday.
Alecko Eskandarian had a goal in the 58th minute to help United salvage the tie on a soggy Cotton Bowl field.
Kreis' 89th career goal broke the record held by Roy Lassiter. Kreis took a pass from Oscar Pareja and placed a left-footed shot into the left corner of the net.
"Strangely enough, I felt like it was going to come today," Kreis said. "I felt like the moon and stars lined up, it was a home game and I felt the conditions were great."
Eskandarian tied the score with his fourth goal of the season. Bobby Convey set up the goal when he crossed to a streaking Eskandarian from the left flank.
The outcome left the Burn at 4-4-4 and United at 4-5-5.
Freddy Adu entered for United in the 75th minute but did not take any shots. This was Adu's first appearance against the Burn, the team that originally held his MLS draft rights. Dallas traded Adu, 15, to United for future considerations. Adu wanted to play closer to home.
"You can't do anything to help your team win when you don't play," Adu said. "I'm a little frustrated, I'm not going to lie."
D.C. squandered a chance in the 19th minute when Convey's shot drifted wide of an open Dallas goal.
Wizards
Preki, the seemingly ageless midfielder, Major League Soccer's only two-time MVP, turned 41 without having played a minute this season.
"It's a tough thing," said the Kansas City Wizards star, who broke his left shinbone and dislocated his ankle in a spring exhibition game.
Preki was coming off a 12-goal, 17-assist 2003 season when he went down Feb. 21.
Now, it could be July 10 before last year's league MVP plays again. That would mean missing half of the 30-game regular season, but he would be available for Kansas City's first U.S. Open Cup match on July 20.
