Hassays renew marriage vows, attend brunch



XYOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Hassay, 1601 Bancroft Ave., renewed their marriage vows June 13 at St. Columba Cathedral where a diocesan wedding anniversary celebration was held.
The couple also marked the 50th anniversary of their wedding by attending a brunch, held in their honor at 11 a.m. June 26 at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.
Hosts for the festivities were the couple's family, Glenn E. Hassay of Struthers, James E. Hassay of Boardman, and Wayne E. and Elizabeth Hassay of Hilliard. Three grandchildren complete the family circle.
The former Verna Mae Rohrer and Mr. Hassay were united in marriage June 26, 1954, at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. They are members of St. Luke Church in Boardman.
Mr. Hassay served with the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 from Mahoning County Engineers. Mrs. Hassay is retired from Rohrer's Candies in Struthers.
