BROOKLYN Cyclones rally to snap Scrappers' win streak

Mahoning Valley tied the score in the ninth inning.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Brooklyn Cyclones pushed across a run in the last of the ninth inning Saturday to defeat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 4-3, in Class A action.
The New York-Penn League setback at KeySpan Park snapped a two-game winning streak by the Scrappers (4-5).
Each team scored a run in the first inning, but three Cyclones pitchers combined to hold the Scrappers in check over the next seven innings.
From the second inning through the end of the eighth, the Scrappers sent just 24 batters to the plate -- three over the minimum.
By then, the Cyclones (6-3) had built a 3-1 lead, but the Scrappers tied it in the top of the ninth in dramatic fashion.
In front of a capacity crowd of 8,603, the Cyclones brought in their closer, Carlos Muniz, to go for the save.
Chris Gimenez singled to lead off the ninth, but Mike Butia struck out.
Encarnacion homers
Teo Encarnacion hit his first home run of the season, just wrapping a line drive around the left-field foul pole to score Gimenez and knot it at 3-all.
Matt Knox came on to pitch the last of the ninth for Mahoning Valley.
Derran Watts singled to lead off the frame for the Cyclones and he stole second.
After a strikeout, Ambiorix Concepcion singled to center and Watts beat the throw to the plate to end it.
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Gimenez, a .208 batter, walked. Butia, who leads the NYPL in hitting (.444), doubled home Gimenez.
