SANDLOT BASEBALL Line Drive slips past Wharmby 1-0 in Class B play



The Roth Brothers team in Class AA won three games.
STRUTHERS -- Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning Thursday to defeat league-leading Wharmby Sports 1-0 in Class B action at Cene Park.
The game began on June 17 but was stopped in the third inning by rain.
Alex Oles pitched four innings of four-hit, scoreless relief, with three strikeouts to pick up the win and improve to 3-1 on the year.
Dustin Kulka (0-1) pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and took the loss for Wharmby (18-4).
Koch (15-7) scored its run when Armani Johnson led off the fifth with a single.
Johnson stole second base and when the throw was wild into center field he raced for third. Johnson scored when the throw from the outfield to third was wild and went into the dugout.
Jessie Alfreno and Lou Kopachy had two hits for Wharmby.
Two other contest were postponed because of inclement weather. Livi and Roth are in a suspended game with Livi leading 8-3 in the bottom of the fifth while Mink and Propane did not start because of the bad weather.
Class AA
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bill Sloan struck out seven and threw a shutout as Roth Brothers defeated Muscle Works, 16-0.
Ryan Johnson, Sean Wardle, Barry Wardle and Joe Bettura all had two hits for Roth.
In an 11-8 win over Muscle Works, Jason Coffey earned the win in relief for Roth.
Jim Putko had three hits, including a home run. Sean Wardle, Rick Gozur and Joe Vrona added two hits each.
Mike Huston hit a grand slam for Muscle Works.
In Roth's 4-2 win over Youngstown Metros, Brian Frasco struck out seven and pitched a complete game.
Gozur had two hits, including a home run. Putko and Eric Jones also recorded two hits as Roth Bros. (11-2) won its ninth straight game.
